Department of Water Resources Management and Agro-Meteorology

The department awards Bachelor of Water Resources Management and Agricultural Meteorology with the following options:

  1. Water Resources Management and Hydrology option
  2. Agricultural Meteorology option

This programme is designed specifically to expose students to:

  1. Problems of water resources in the area of distribution and availability, management and mode of extraction for domestic, agricultural and industrial uses.
  2. Problems of the climate as it affects agricultural practices and to provide the basic training needed for understanding of the intricate plant-climate relationships.

Thus the main goals of the programme are:

  1. To produce competent manpower with adequate practical background in the development and management of water resources schemes in the are of exploration, exploitation, quality monitoring as well as distribution for municipal, industrial and agricultural users.
  2. To produce competent manpower that will take advantage of our knowledge of the plants environment
    vis-� -vis plant-weather relationship and ability to make reliable short-term weather forecast and long-term prediction for the schedule of farm operations and agricultural practices in general.

To meet these aims and objectives, introductory and practical courses are mounted in:

  1. Water Resources Development and Management
  2. Hydrological Analysis and Processes
  3. Climatology
  4. Meteorology and applied aspects in each as related to water resources and agriculture

Students are also made to spend a period of nine months in relevant private and/or government agencies in order to expose them to the professional environment.

At the end of the programme, the products are expected to:

  1. Serve as a manpower to the relevant Federal, State and Local Government agencies, NGOs, Private Organizations and Establishments
  2. He/She must have passed all the University compulsory courses
  3. He/She must have passed all Departmental/College core courses and required electives
  4. He/She must not have spent more than two additional years above prescribed minimum duration specified
  5. He/She must not have less than a CGPA of 1.0 at the end of the program

Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management

The main objectives of this programme are: To produce graduates with sufficient practical background to create employment from utilization to Forestry and Wildlife Resources. The graduates are also expected to be able to undertake local souring of industrial raw materials, to produce animal protein through domestication and ranching of wildlife and also engage in food production through agro forestry.

To produce the required manpower which will not only be used in staffing forestry and wildlife establishments nationally but which also would be able to carry out relevant mission oriented research into all aspects of Forestry and Wildlife, the yet unexplored benefits and products which can serve as bases for newer industries.

Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology

The academic programme in he Department pf Environmental Management and Toxicology is designed to provide the training needed for an understanding of the environment and to build upon the foundation by exploring in some depths specific aspects such as resources depletion, recycling, re-use and the impact of Science and Technology on the Environment.

The Department, being the first of its kind in Nigeria is providing for the first time, skilled manpower, trained specifically for environmental surveillance, monitoring and management as against the present practice where these tasks were performed by people trained in the basic and some broad applied sciences.
