The Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development was established in 1983. The Department is one of the five Departments in the former College of Agricultural Management, Rural Development and Consumer Studies (COLAMRUCS). The Department offers programmes leading to the award of Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral Degrees and Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Communication, Rural Development and Subject Matter Extension.

 

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES

 

The mandate of the Department is to teach and conduct research in all aspects of agricultural extension and rural development and to contribute to the development of our immediate and remote environments.

 

In order to achieve the above stated mandate, the Department is committed to achieving the following goals:

 

1. To train competent future leaders for the agricultural sector, government establishments and society, who are sensitive to socio-economic needs and dedicated to providing solutions to pressing agricultural and economic problems of the country.

 

2. To focus research efforts on areas of relevance to our immediate environment and the local and global situations.

3. To encourage inter-disciplinary cooperation in research among Staff and other external affiliations.
