Learn to Maintain Peace, says AASU scribe
Students of tertiary institutions, have again been advised to always maintain peace in their interest, that of their institutions and the society in general.

This call was made by the Secretary-General, Association of African Students’ Union, Ambassador Oludare Ogunlana, during the first UNAABSU Legislative Leadership Summit and Award Presentation, organized by  the  Students’  Representative Assembly
(SRA) of the University.

Ambassador Oludare challenged students to learn to obey University authorities, because peace could only reign when there is room for dialogue and strict adherence to the tenets of law and order by students and other stakeholders of higher institutions.

Ambassador Oludare, who spoke on “The Role of Student Legislators in Maintaining and Ensuring
Peace and Development of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions”, observed that development will continue to elude any society, whose students preferferred violence and confrontation to the alternative of peace.

Also at the occasion, the Head, Political Science Department, University of Ibadan, Professor Bayo Okunade, presented a paper on  “Credible Election in 2011: The Role of Student Leaders ”, with a view that it would be impossible for any nation to develop, if it does not embrace democracy, sustained through a free and fair electoral process.

The Professor, however, advised students to imbibe the principle of fairness in all they do within and outside the campus as these will help in inculcating in them, the required attributes of future leaders, thus eradicating the rot, being experienced in the corridors of power in Nigeria.

Earlier, in his welcome speech, the Speaker, UNAABSU, Rt. Hon. Adewoye Oluwaseun thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun for his immense contributions to the welfare of the students and the development of the University.
