Professor Mrs Olufunmilayo Ayoka Adebambo

Olufunmilayo Ayoka Adebambo graduated with Ph.D Animal Breeding in September 1976 from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, became first female Professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics in Nigeria in October 1996, has a spate of post-doctorate training in Computer usage, a Biotechnology, specialized Pig and Poultry Breeding, at the prestigious Roslin Institute, the Animal Breeding Research Organisation, Edinburgh and the Poultry Breeding Research Centre, Hessaraghata, India.

Professor Adebambo has 68 research publications to her credit and has attended and presented over 40 articles at local and international seminars, workshops, conferences and congresses. She is a life member of the Nigerian Society for Animal Production, and the Genetics Society of Nigeria, she is also a member of several other scientific associations including the World Poultry Science Association.

Among her awards are the:

  1. British Council Training Grant - 1982.
  2. Common Wealth Staff Fellowship Award - 1986.
  3. Federal Ministry of Science and Technology Pig and Rabbit Research Project Grant - 1987.
  4. Directorate of Food, Roads and Rural Infrastructure, Improved Indigenous Pig Reseach, Multiplication and Distribution Grant - 1990.
  5. ILCA's (International Livestock Centre for Africa) Training Grant - 1994.
  6. Royal Society of England's Third World Fellowship Award - 1996.
  7. World Bank Assisted National Agricultural Research Project Grant - 1996.
  8. India's Technical Cooperation SCAAP Grant - 2001.
  9. National Universities Commission (NUC) Outstanding Research Project Award - 2004.
  10. First Scientist to develop improved pig and poultry breeds for Nigeria from the indigenous genetic resources.
  11. Currently a member of University Senate from Sept. 1994 and University's Governing Council from August 2000.
